Refurbished rolling stock will soon run the Capital Connection train. But opportunities to improve service here and in the Wairarapa appear to have slipped under the radar.
As of Mon 30th Oct. Capital Connection once again stops in Shannon following the resolution of safety concerns around the capacity of train doors to accurately match-up with the recently raised, but very short platform.
Also, a little bird told me that there's plans to double the service in about 2 years time using another set of rebuilt BR Mk2 coaching-stock similar to that which came into service a few weeks ago. This pre-empts the introduction of the anticipated hybrid trains in 2028.
